NJ cemetery employee trapped for almost half hour after grave collapses


A New Jersey grave digger was trapped this week when a plot collapsed on him as he ready it for a burial, police stated.


The 59-year-old worker needed to be rescued Tuesday at Lyndhurst’s Hillside Cemetery from the 8-foot-deep grave that he jumped into as he and coworkers have been preparing for a funeral, NorthJersey.com reported.


“They didn't make the most of any shoring after they have been digging the grave,” Lyndhurst Police Sgt. Vincent Auteri stated. “He determined to leap in nonetheless.”


As he was taking measurements, the edges of the grave collapsed, trapping him as much as his knees, in response to the report.


Different workers heard him calling for assist and alerted authorities, who have been capable of free him after about 25 minutes, the outlet reported.


He was transported to Hackensack College Medical Middle after complaining of again and chest ache, the report stated.


“His respiration was by no means in jeopardy,” Auteri insisted.


The Occupational Security and Well being Administration has been notified concerning the office accident.
